Charter Cancellations and Refunds
1.1. If the Guest wishes to cancel their spot(s) on the sailing adventure, they are entitled to a refund under the following conditions:
1.1.1. The Guest must find a "suitable" substitute guest to fill their spot(s).
1.1.2. The substitute guest is considered "suitable" only upon approval from Lowtide Services LLC.
1.1.3. The substitute guest must complete the payment in full to be considered a valid replacement.
2. Upon fulfilling the conditions in Section 1, Lowtide services will refund the Guest’s payment, minus any applicable expenses incurred in the substitution process.
2.3. In the case of trip cancellation due extreme weather, or any other circumstance where the cancellation is initiated by Lowtide Services LLC, a full refund will be provided to the Guest.
Although we would much prefer to be able to offer a more generous cancellation policy, the simple fact is that Lowtide Sailing does not hold on to customers' payments for more than a week. After a guest has sent payment, we immediatly foreward about 80%-90% of that money to pay for the sailing vessel, as well as cover captain's expenses such as flights, hotels, etc.
The reason we do not retain guests' money after payment is that the lion's share of a trip's expense goes toward paying for the boat rental. When it comes to yacht rental companies, there is usually zero wiggle room to get any kind of partial refund or downsize to a cheaper/smaller yacht once the booking has been made. Furthermore, if you visit the websites of companies comparable to us such as Join the Crew, Sailing Virgins, Bluewater Breeze, and others, you'll find a similar policy to Lowtide Sailing.
We will always do what we can to help in any unfortunate circumstances that lead to a guest having to miss their trip, but it is ultimately the guest's responsibility to fill their room.
